SPENTA CAPTAIN KANDAWALLA is Chairperson and co-owner of Captain-PQ Chemical Industries, a fully women owned company and the leading manufacturer of Silicates in Pakistan. She has also served as Managing Director of Kandex Sales Pvt Ltd, which successfully introduced Honda automobiles into Pakistan.

From 2000-2010 Spenta served on the Board of State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan, one of the country’s largest state owned financial enterprises., and was the first woman in the long history of the Corporation to hold this position. From 2004-2011, Spenta served on the Board of Engro Foods, starting at its inception. She is currently on the Board of Standard Chartered Bank Pakistan, where she has served since 2014 as an Independent Non Executive Director and is Chair of the Board Human Resource and Remuneration Committee. In all of these positions, she has been the first and only woman to serve on these boards. Spenta has more recently joined the Board of Pakistan Cables Ltd. where she also serves as the Chair of the Board HR and Remuneration Committee. 

In addition, Spenta is an active member of civil society. She is Founding Trustee of The i-Care Foundation, Pakistan’s first Donor Advised Fund and Managing Trustee of her family foundation, the Captain Foundation. She is Chairperson of Patients Aid Foundation- a public private partnership with Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre. She also serves on the Board of Layton Rehmatulla Benevolent Trust, the Liaquat National Hospital and Medical College and the Parsi General Hospital Trust Fund, She is also a Founding Member of the Business Leadership Council of Wellesley College, USA. Chair, Alumnae Admissions Representatives for Pakistan, Wellesley College and Member of the Presidents’ Advisory Board on Global Education, Wellesley College. 

Spenta  holds a B.A (Honours) in Political Science and Economics from Wellesley College (U.S.A) and has completed courses at the MIT Sloan School of Management. She is a PICG Certified Board Director and a member of Women Corporate Directors USA.
