Simonil Rustomji graduated with a Bachelor in Accounting & Finance from H.R. College in Mumbai, India in 2011. She launched her career in the social impact space, first in an operations role at Swadhaar FinServe (an urban microfinance institution) and then in a project management & business development role at Samhita Social Ventures (a social impact consultancy). She subsequently transitioned into her family’s furniture manufacturing business (Colonial Collections) with the goal of streamlining their operations. Here she learned the power traditional businesses have to make an impact on the world and became passionate about operating at the intersection of business and social impact. She went on to pursue an MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business after which she took on the role of Chief Operating Officer at a sustainable furniture start-up in New York (mebl | Transforming Furniture). She has now moved back to Mumbai and is splitting her time between mebl & Colonial Collections, and is working with both companies to streamline their operations while enabling them to grow.
