Shiraz has a wealth of health and social care experience and currently works as a Manager at the Care Quality Commission, the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England. Prior to this, she spent over 19 years as a policy professional for the UK government Department of Health and Social Care, managing and developing a variety of specialist national policy in social care, NHS and mental health; advising and supporting government ministers.
She gained a diploma in Gerontology from Birkbeck – University of London and set up her own complimentary therapies business working in nursing and residential care homes which she has been running for over 23 years. She works in collaboration with doctors, nurses, families of residents and carers to help provide the best possible holistic care to residents and improve their quality of life.
From a very young age she has been passionate about giving back to her community. Although she has a full-time job and three children of school age, she is a dedicated voluntary worker. She currently holds a Director position and sits on the Board of trustees for HealthWatch Sutton, where she maintains responsibility for the strategic direction of this public organisation that champions health and social care within one of London’s largest boroughs. She is also a founder committee member of the ZTFE – Care in the Zoroastrian Community initiative, which supports older people within the UK Zoroastrian community in several ways but primarily aims to alleviate isolation and loneliness.
