Dr Azmy Birdi originally trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, working as a specialist in hospitals for some years.
She then switched to general practice and did her MRCGP and her post graduate teaching qualification in Medical Education. Azmy has been a postgraduate medical educator for doctors in training since 2003 and in 2009 was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG) by assessment. In 2021, Azmy was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health (FSRH) U.K. for her services to women’s health.
She is constantly looking at ways to improve delivery of women’s health in our local area, not just by working as a doctor but also an activist and advocate, writing to companies and businesses to include Women’s Health especially Menopause care as workplace policies.
Azmy is invited to speak on menopause and women’s health at various conferences and meetings as well as workplaces on a regular basis. She is a menopause specialist and recognized menopause trainer (accredited by both the British Menopause Society as well as the FSRH) running menopause clinics and continuing training & teaching for menopause special skills even during the pandemic. During the first lockdown she created a WhatsApp advice group for local doctors, and this now includes GPs from all parts of the U.K.
In 2010 Azmy trained in medical acupuncture which she uses to help patients and she believes in a holistic approach when caring for people. During the pandemic she wrote a book ‘ What Pesi Did, A Surgeon’s Story which is available on Amazon.

Part of the income from the sales of her book has gone to mental health charities and all profits go towards menopause research and education in the NHS.
